I have to say that Harry’s early books have stood the test of time and can hold there own along side any books currently being published. These books covered an outstanding collection of routines, sleights and thinking. Believe it or not, I was able to source this book through my local library along with another of Harry’s books “Decksterity”.

His most influential and most famous book on card magic was and still is “Close-Up Card Magic”. Also taught are all of the techniques used within the routines. Through studying “The Magic Book”, I became aware of the fact that Harry had written numerous books for magicians. I felt as if I had made a new friend, little did I know how much of a friend he would become. I took this advice to heart what made the learning process so much fun was that Harry’s style of communicating was as if he was sat right next to me, showing me and teaching me every step of the way. Harry’s belief was that if you mastered these sleights, you could do serious card magic for a life time with these basic card techniques. The fundamental sleights he was referring to were: This book that would have a huge influence on me because, Harry stressed the important of learning the fundamental card techniques really well. In 1978, Harry published his wonderful book for the public, “The Magic Book”. 94 chapters and many photos tell how a terribly shy poor kid born and raised on the mean streets, the ghetto, of New York Citys Lower East Side became 'The Worlds Foremost Memory-training Specialist' and the man that Time called 'The Yoda of Memory Training.'. Jean Hugard’s “The Royal Road to Card Magic” was and still is an excellent start for the beginning student, nevertheless, I found this book confusing, to begin with. I struggled to learn card magic back in the early 1970s. I think it is fair to say that all card men owe Harry Lorayne a huge debt for his tireless dedication to making the learning of card magic an easy process.
